2009 Mt. George Merlot: Thinner skinned and earlier ripening than the other great Claret varieties, Merlot needs a cooler growing site to slow down sugar development, allowing flavor ripeness to catch up. That is why we like our Mt. George vineyard which gives our Merlot its oily herbal and black berry fruit flavors with a serious core of tannin for body.
