2009 – Solo Cabernet Sauvignon

In 1968, Harry See planted the Silverado Vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the next two decades with careful vine selection and cultivation, the Silverado Clone emerged becoming the only Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon designated as a “Heritage Clone”, by the University of California, Davis. Each year, we honor this select clone designation with SOLO.

APPELLATION: Stags Leap District, Napa Valley

VARIETAL: Cabernet Sauvignon

COOPERAGE: 19 months barrel age
45% new oak. New oak profile: 100% French
Overall oak profile: 100% French

Vintage Notes

Compare the nearly thirty days of intense frost from spring 2008 to the fewer than five frost incidents in 2009, the start to the vintage was much less eventful for growers who were able to sleep nights not worrying about the threat of frost. Late spring rains delayed irrigation needs, and the warm spell in June helped curtail excessive canopy development. The nearly 14 days of 100°F plus temperatures that mark a typical growing season, 2009 counted perhaps only four or five overall, helping to reduce demand for water when the resource was relatively scarce.

Tasting Notes

Fragrant bouquet of sweet spices and dried herbs with flavors of ripe plum, blackberry, and cassis with well-integrated, lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied with a strongly-balanced core and supple tannins.
