2016 – Geo Cabernet Sauvignon

Awarded 92 points and deemed a ‘Benchmark 2016 Napa Cabernet’ by James Molesworth, Wine Spectator.

In 1988, Ron and Diane Miller, purchased the Mt George Vineyard, the site of the first vinifera plantings in the Coombsville AVA. Situated in a quiet corner of the Napa Valley a few miles east of the city of Napa, Mt George is a vineyard of undeniable strength. As the 20th anniversary of Silverado’s first Mt George harvest approached in 2012, the decision was made to make a wine for the occasion. It is called GEO – Greek for “Earth” and short for “George” – and it represents the highest expression of single-vineyard Cabernet from this extraordinary place.

Vintage Notes

The near-perfect 2016 growing season started early, saw ideal weather conditions throughout and wrapped up as the valley’s first significant fall rainstorm arrived on October 14. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness.

Tasting Notes

Purple florals such as violet, lilac and lavender, sweet fruit aromas, and hints of clove and bittersweet chocolate. Full-bodied, with a steady richness and structured tannins. Flavors of muddled black cherry, anise and plum, notes of dried thyme, cedar and crushed rock.
